About the service
We offer appointments with a librarian or curator if you need help finding resources in our collections or conducting research:
- up to one hour
- one-on-one
- on the phone or in person at the Library.
What we can help with
You can request an appointment if you need:
- guidance on what resources related to your research are available in our collection
- help with research strategies and methodologies for your specific research.
We cannot assist with:
- general questions that are not related to our collections
- teaching basic family history research methodology. Use our family history research guide.
- orientation tours, school or group visits. Go to school programs or library tours.
Who can book
You can request an appointment if you:
- have a library login
- do not have a library login, but intend to use our unique collections.
If you are a student, we will usually refer you to your educational institution.

You can also:
- call us
- visit us in our reading rooms.
What happens next
After you request an appointment, a librarian or curator will contact you to:
- confirm your requirements
- set up an appointment date and time
- confirm if the appointment will be on the telephone or in-person at the Library.
The librarian or curator will then spend:
- up to one hour preparing
- up to one hour with you in the appointment.
