Accessibility for visitors

We aim to make sure everyone has equal access to our collections, exhibitions, building, and events. For detailed information about accessible access, visit our Accessibility page.

ATM

The nearest ATM is at Coffers Café in the Treasury building, across King Edward Terrace, available Monday to Friday during business hours. ATMs are also available at the National Gallery of Australia and the National Portrait Gallery.

Computers, internet and wifi

We offer free access to computers, the internet, and Wi-Fi for all visitors.

Lost property

If you’ve lost something, please visit the Foyer Information Desk for assistance.

Print, copy, scan

Use your library card to print, photocopy and scan in the reading rooms.

Add value to your card at the card kiosks in the Main Reading Room, Newspapers and Family History Zone or Special Collections Reading Room. The kiosks accept EFTPOS and credit card payments only. Disposable Printing and Photocopying cards may be purchased from the Library Bookshop.

Please ask staff about digital photography.

Free lockers and storage

To protect our collection, some items are not allowed in the reading rooms or galleries.

Store the following in our free lockers:

  • bags larger than 30 x 30 x 30 cm
  • food and drinks (pure water in a tightly sealed bottle is allowed in the Main Reading Room)
  • items that may harm the collection
  • overcoats and umbrellas

Using our free lockers

Lockers are available on Lower Ground 1 for free use. To store your items:

  1. find an empty locker and place your belongings inside.
  2. choose a 4-digit code, enter it on the keypad and press the # key.
  3. take note of your locker number (hint: take a photo).
  4. to open your locker, enter the same 4-digit code and press the # key.

Locker sizes

  • Small: 350mm H x 270mm W x 470mm D
  • Medium: 440mm H x 370mm W x 470mm D
  • Large: 580mm H x 370mm W x 470mm D
  • Extra-large: 870mm H x 370mm W x 470mm D 

Locker notices

  • Lockers are cleared daily after the Library closes.
  • The Library is not responsible for personal belongings.
  • For your safety, do not leave personal possessions or bags unattended. If left alone, items may be inspected and removed by Library staff.
