Fellowships 2027: Explore, question, discover and share

Published on 23 Feb 2026

Applications for 2027 Fellowships and Creative Arts Fellowships open on 23 February 2026.

Researchers, writers and creative practitioners are invited to apply for the National Library of Australia’s 2027 Fellowships, a program that supports ambitious research and creativity powered by Australia’s largest national collection.

Eight Fellows will each receive $35,000 to explore, question and create new work shaped by the Library’s diverse holdings.

For many researchers and creators, receiving a Fellowship is the chance to finally focus on that big idea that’s been waiting for time and space. Our collections open up possibilities you don’t even realise are there until you start searching.

Fellows join a vibrant intellectual community and work alongside experts and peers to explore the unique stories, histories and perspectives held across one of the world’s great research collections.

National Library of Australia Fellowships are open to experienced researchers needing to undertake sustained work with the Library’s collections to advance their research towards publication or other public outcomes.

The Creative Arts Fellowship for Australian Writing supports writers across all genres to develop work inspired by these rich resources.

These Fellowships are made possible by the generosity of our philanthropic partners, whose support helps researchers create new knowledge and share it with the nation.

Applications for NLA Fellowships and Creative Arts Fellowships will close on Tuesday 7 April 2026 at 5:00pm AEST.
