The National Library of Australia has extensive holdings of material concerning Australia's involvement in the First World War.

The Australian and overseas printed collections at the National Library contain substantial material which can support research into the First World War.

There is a wide range of material relating to the effect of the First World War on Australia and Australians, ranging from the personal and intimate to the professional and remote.

Oral histories are collected by the National Library in order to record the voices that document Australia's social and cultural life. Although the Library does not actively collect realia, items may be selectively acquired, especially when they have high levels of visual content.

Newspapers provide an invaluable resource for researching World War I and the National Library holds the largest collection of Australian and overseas newspapers in Australia in both print and digital formats. 

The Library has rich holdings of music from this era including marches, patriotic songs and sheet music with highly decorative and evocative covers.

There are many unique manuscript collections relating to World War I held at the National Library.

On April 25, 1915, the Australian troops, together with troops from New Zealand, Britain and France, landed at what came to be called ANZAC Cove.
