Other priorities

Philanthropy's impact at the National Library continues to grow. Beyond supporting digitisation and research by Fellows and Scholars, donor support brings public lectures to audiences in person and online, strengthens First Nations collecting initiatives, and expands online learning programs based on our collections.

Flagship Lectures

The Library’s flagship lecture program brings leading Australian thinkers and writers to national audiences through the Kenneth Myer, Ray Mathew and Ann Moyal lectures. Generously supported by donors and bequests, these annual events foster public discussion on issues shaping Australia, spanning science, society, culture, literature and the environment.

First Nations Projects

Through its First Nations collections and oral history programs, the Library supports First Nations people to share, preserve and interpret their own stories. Generously supported by the Bettison and James Foundation, this work strengthens culturally safe oral history practice by training and mentoring First Nations interviewers to record lived experiences and cultural knowledge in communities across Australia.

Lifelong Learning

Our Lifelong Learning program helps people of all ages engage with Australia’s stories through the Library’s collections. Supported by the generous philanthropy of the Opalgate Foundation, the program delivers accessible online learning experiences that explore diverse histories, collections and exhibitions, guided by researchers, curators and subject experts.
