Story Dogs on Sunday - October 2025
Please note: The Library is hosting the Canberra Writers Festival on the last weekend in October so this Story Dogs session will not be running as usual. The dogs and volunteers will be onsite throughout the day and visitors are welcome to pat the dogs and chat to volunteers. The Story Dogs program returns as usual on the last Sunday in November.
Trained volunteers and their accredited dogs create a nurturing environment where children can enjoy a range of stories in a relaxed environment. This unique program aims to make reading fun, helping children enjoy books and to become confident, lifelong readers.
Young people aged 7 to 12 are invited to enjoy stories and pats as they sit with a friendly reader and attentive dogs, just outside our Bookshop in the Foyer.
Very small children (under 7) can listen to the stories and pat the dogs with parental supervision.
Several dogs will be onsite for each session, however places are limited, and bookings are preferred.
This event will repeat on the last Sunday of every month for the remainder of the year, and you're welcome to book ahead.
This program is presented in partnership with Story Dogs.
