About the service
We offer appointments with a librarian supported by a professional interpreter if you need help with research or finding resources in our collections.
Appointments are:
- up to one hour
- one-on-one
- held via telephone or in person at the Library
- conducted between 10am – 4pm, Monday-Friday
- supported by an interpreter in your preferred language
What we can help with
You can request an appointment if you need:
- information or help with joining the Library
- guidance on resources available in our collection
- help with research and Library services
We cannot assist with:
- general questions that are not related to our collections, such as other government services.
- teaching how to research your family history. Use our family history research guide.
- orientation tours, school or group visits. Go to school programs or library tours.
Who can book
You can request an appointment if you:
- are residing in Australia
- intend to use our unique collections or services.
If you are a student, we may refer you to your educational institution.

What happens next
After you request an appointment, a librarian will contact you to:
- confirm your requirements
- arrange an appointment date and time
- confirm if the appointment will be on the telephone or in-person at the Library
- coordinate interpreter arrangements.
The librarian will then spend:
- up to one hour preparing
- up to one hour with you in the appointment.
