Public interest disclosures | National Library of Australia (NLA)

Public interest disclosures

The Library encourages the reporting of wrongdoing under the Public Interest Disclosure Act 2013 (PID Act), acts on disclosures where appropriate and protects disclosers from any reprisals or threats of reprisals as a result of making a disclosure.

The Library’s Public Interest Disclosure Procedures aim to ensure that disclosures made under the PID Act are managed in accordance with the standards required by the Commonwealth Ombudsman and good practice.

Under section 36 of the PID Act, the Library has appointed two Authorised Officers who can determine whether a matter is a public interest disclosure and, if so, allocate it for investigation:

  • Alison Dellit, Assistant Director-General, Collaboration
  • David Wong, Chief Information Officer

Please contact one of the Library’s Authorised Officers if you wish to report suspected wrongdoing.

A disclosure may be made anonymously or openly. While a disclosure may be made orally or in writing, if you wish to make an anonymous disclosure the Library recommends sending your disclosure by post.

Your disclosure should:

  • be clear and factual
  • so far as possible, avoid speculation, personal attacks and emotive language
  • contain supporting evidence where that is available
  • where possible, identify any witnesses to the conduct
